I just had to post this piece here that I found on our sister site...... Tonight I am really on a high. I have finally gotten my wish and seen Tarina perform live at the fundraising concert that was put together in approximately 48 hours and was one of the smoothest flowing productions I have ever seen in my home country. The best part being that it was streamed live on every media house and better still, those of us in the Diaspora were finally able to see our new queen of song sing her heart out with charisma, personality and much panache. I have seen Tarina sing before at the Swinging Stars jam at Fort Young hotel in February of 2007 when I visited home for Carnival. Tonight however was a special treat. It was all about her and she was gracious, humble as always and very entertaining. Her tonal quality and pitch live is as phenomenal as if it where put through a 128 channel electronic synthesizer. I was really proud to see her deliver that level of performance and sound in a live performance. Not many people can do that. This is why I continue to be excited about and for her.It was a special treat for viewers to see Tarina and Michelle Henderson Del Sol perform the reunion 2008 theme song together. It will indeed be a hell of a celebration with these two ladies headlining activities next year. Michelle we still love you. You are still the Ophelia Marie of my generation. However, I hope our Tarina is given her time to shine at next year's World Creole Music Festival and I will surely be in that crowd to witness, film and post the performance somewhere. It was also awesome to see all the MPs and other government and opposition officials come together under one banner to support the young lady and what this means for Dominica. No red, no green, no blue, just love for music and it's uniting power. I look forward to seeing more of that when we can put our differences aside and rally behind something or someone who makes us all proud. I am sure Tarina is pleased to learn that the Government is giving her a scholarship to the university of her choice once she is done with her nursing program in Dominica. This is the kind of thing that Dominica needs so that more young people will see the arts as a viable way of getting an education and doing great things in life. To surmise, I would like to express special thanks to the folks at www.islandvideoz.com for streaming the concert live so those of us who are away from home can see the level of excellence that Tarina, Michelle and all Dominican artists have the ability to deliver. I hope that website will re-run this concert so that more people have the ability to partake of it. You never know who is watching and surfing the net and what connections they might have. Why should Jamaica and T&T be the only countries to boast of their musical exports? We have it people let us celebrate and cherish what is simply Dominican and simply the best! |
